  Are the criminal checks instant?
We understand the importance of each result. This is why we communicate a due date for each request. We always recommend in-person record searches - NOT DATABASE SEARCHES. This means we have someone literally walk into the court house where the person lives/lived to check court records. Although the onsite search takes a bit longer than a database search, this method ensures the most accurate and complete results. Database searches cannot always ensure information source, timeliness or accuracy.

Can we get a 'statewide' or 'national' criminal check?
This is the greatest area of confusion. First, no true Nationwide check exists. The courthouses at the county level retain the only comprehensive information, so looking at all counties of residence will accomplish this task appropriately. Second, very few states have a true Statewide check. A true check entails consolidating all county information daily. Only a handful of states actually do this. Most states make database searches available, however they typically consist of prison records and/or sexual offenders. These are typically by name match only and we recommend them only as a backstop to the county level searches. esa provides these types of searches as well.

One of my requests has a criminal record - how do I know it's really my applicant?
Our county criminal checks are done on-site, so other identifiers such as date of birth, social security number, address confirmation and/or middle name can be used. Each record can identify how the record was matched to your Applicant. Database searches are typically by name match only making common name searches extremely difficult. If there are any discrepancies on the record, these will be noted on the report.

How far back does esa go when searching criminal records?
We instruct our searchers to report all cases listed under the person's identifiers. We search a minimum of seven (7) years of criminal history in each county, although some jurisdictions retain history well beyond that. When available, we will report convictions as far back as available.

Why is a social security trace and confirmation vital?
A social security identifies prior addresses of your Applicant. Although your application may request prior residency, Applicants may attempt to hide a criminal history by omitting this information. The trace identifies prior addresses which directs us to the counties to search.

What about DOT and FAA regulated positions?

We have a team of specialists that handle all DoT and FAA regulated positions, including DoT Employment (Alcohol, Drug & Accident Questionnaire), pre-employment drug testing, random drug testing as well as the management of your random drug test program.

How do I submit my background check list?
You have 3 options: fax, email or on-line. We recommend our website entry system. We can customize your account to accommodate multiple users, locations and/or request criteria. The on-line system allows you to see & retrieve results real-time. We regularly hear how easy to use the website is to use and it is FREE. For a demo of our website please contact our offices at (513) 728-3255 or (800) 706-8848.
